Background

The Lancashire Environmental Fund (LEF) is an environmental body enrolled with the Government's regulatory body, ENTRUST, to provide landfill tax funding for a wide variety of projects to improve the environment and bring community benefits throughout the county of Lancashire.

Formed as a non-profit company in 1998 as a partnership of Lancashire County Council, SITA UK Ltd, the Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside and Community Futures, the Fund has allocated over £15m to more than 500 environmental and community projects throughout the county to date.

If you are new to the Fund please read the General Guidance notes in the 'How to Apply' section in addition to the notes for each specific funding stream. If you have applied before you can download an application forms from the quick links.

The next deadline for the receipt of applications is 11th October 2010.

Revised application forms have been added to the quick links section. We have updated the names of the two funding streams. Community Chest is now called Small Grants, Strategic Fund becomes Major Grants. Please note that as well as the titles there have also been changes to some of the qualifying criteria and financial details required.

The Big Lottery Fund has teamed up with the BBC to launch the Community Wildlife Programme. The programme celebrates 2010, the International Year of Biodiversity, by allowing local groups and communities to get more involved with, enhance and protect their local wildlife. Grants of between £300 and £10,000 are being provided for one-year projects.
